TEHRAN (IQNA) – Egypt’s Awqaf ministry said 46 new mosques that are dispersed across 11 governorates will be inaugurated next week.

In a press release Sunday, the ministry said the inauguration of the mosques will be held on Friday, December 2.

It pointed out that by the upcoming inauguration, the number of mosques that have been built/renovated since July 1 would be 351. That is in addition to 79 others that underwent maintenance.

Egypt’s authorities in April started maintenance and renovation works at the historical and sacred Al Sayeda Zainab Mosque.

The renovation works also includes the buildings around it and the whole neighborhood, not just the mosque itself.

All shop signs surrounding the Mosque in Al Sayeda Zainab neighborhood in Cairo are expected to be unified, as the street will be developed to be similar to the touristic Khan Al-Khalil Street.

Earlier, in March, the ministry decided to close Imam Hussein (AS) Mosque in Old Cairo Governorate for restoration and maintenance work ahead of the holy month of Ramadan, the ninth month of the Islamic Calendar during which the Muslims worldwide fast from dawn to the sunset.
