More Than 12M Pilgrims Visit Kadhimayn Shrines for Mourning Processions

TEHRAN (IQNA) – According to the Astan (custodianship) of Al-Kadhimayn Shrines, more than 12 million pilgrims visited the shrine on the martyrdom anniversary of Imam Kadhim (AS).

According to Iraqi officials, pilgrims are gradually moving out of Kadhimiya. Some 2,000 Moukebs (resting places with special facilities and services for pilgrims) and 5,000 volunteers provide services to pilgrims most of whom are making the pilgrimage by foot from near and far cities.

The 25th day of the lunar Hijri month of Rajab marks the martyrdom anniversary of Imam Kadhim (AS), which fell on Thursday, February 16 this year.

Days ahead of the sad occasion, thousands of Iraqi Shia Muslims started marching toward the holy city.

Meanwhile, the Astan (custodianship) of Al-Kadhimayn Shrines has made preparations for receiving a large number of pilgrims.

The Imam (AS) was poisoned and martyred on Rajab 25, 183 (September 5, 799 AD) in a prison in Baghdad.

Millions of devotees from different parts of Iraq, as well as other countries like Iran, have traveled to Kadhimiya to take part in rituals mourning the sad occasion.
