37th International Islamic Unity Conference in Tehran

Addressing the 37thInternational Islamic Unity Conference here in Tehran on Sunday, Sheikh Shamseddin Sharafeddin referred to the recent terrorist attacks in Pakistan and said the US and the Zionist regime are behind such attacks in Muslim countries.

Adherence to the values of the Book of God and the Sunnah of the Holy Prophet (PBUH) is the path to counter Takfirism and terrorism, he stressed.

He also slammed the recent acts of Quran desecration in European countries, including Sweden and Denmark, saying proximity and unity among Muslims is the way to foil such plots that he described as Zionist schemes.

Elsewhere in his remarks, Sheikh Sharafeddin lauded the resistance of the Yemeni nation against aggressors and attributed the Yemenis’ victory to their steadfastness and sticking to their revolutionary stances.

He said the revolution of Yemen was not based on tribalism or race but the people of the country have been defending the values of the Quran.

The cleric said Jihad on the path of God must be a priority for Muslims and that is when the real enemies of Muslims, namely the US and Israel, are defeated.

The 37th International Islamic Unity Conference, which is held both in-person and online, was inaugurated with the recitation of some verses from the Holy Quran at Tehran's Summit Hall.

More than 200 Iranian and foreign intellectuals and religious figures from various Muslim countries are participating in the conference, which is organized by the World Forum for Proximity of Islamic Schools of Thought. The event will conclude on October 3.

The online section of the conference started on Thursday, September 28.

The 17th day of Rabi al-Awwal, which falls on October 3 this year, is believed by Shia Muslims to mark the birth anniversary of Prophet Mohammad (PBUH), while Sunni Muslims regard the 12th day of the month (September 28) as the birthday of the last prophet.

The interval between the two dates is celebrated every year as the Islamic Unity Week.

Late Founder of the Islamic Republic of Iran Imam Khomeini (RA) declared the occasion the Islamic Unity Week back in the 1980s.
