UAE: Registration Beings for 24th Sheikha Hind Bint Maktoum Holy Quran competition

ABU DHABI (IQNA) – The registration process for the 24th edition of Sheikha Hind Bint Maktoum Holy Quran competition in the United Arab Emirates began on Wednesday.

The Dubai International Holy Quran Award has started accepting registration forms for the competition as interested individuals can submit their applications to the approved memorization centers until December 13, 2023, Emirates News Agency (WAM) reported on Thursday.

The competition consists of six categories: memorization of the entire Quran, memorization of 20 Juzes (parts), memorization of 10 Juzes, memorization of 5 Juzes (open to citizens only), memorization of 5 Juzes (for residents below 10 years old), and memorization of 3 Juzes (for citizens below 10 years old).

To participate in the competition, non-citizens must be below 25 years old and possess a valid residence permit in the United Arab Emirates. Residents of the Persian Gulf Cooperation Council countries are also eligible to participate if they have permanent residency in the UAE.

Participants must not be previous winners of the Dubai International Holy Quran Award or the Sheikha Fatima Bint Mubarak International Holy Quran Competition, and they must not have participated in the same category or a higher category in previous competitions. Each contestant can only participate in one category of the competition.

Counselor Ibrahim Mohammed Bu Melha, and advisor to the ruler of Dubai for cultural and humanitarian affairs and chairman of the award’s organizing committee, emphasized the significance of the Sheikha Hind Bint Maktoum Holy Quran Competition.

It is a key branch of the Quranic competitions organized by the Dubai Holy Quran Award throughout the year, he said, adding that the competition recognizes and supports those who have memorized the Quran among citizens and residents of the UAE, both male and female, and aims to encourage and improve their recitation and understanding of its teachings.

Muhammad Ali Al Hammadi, an official with the event, announced that after the nomination period, organizers will conduct final exams for the selected participants according to the schedule. The exams will take place from January 6th to January 13th, 2024, at the award headquarters in the Al Mamzar area for males and at the Al Nahda Women’s Association in Dubai for females. The closing ceremony and awarding of winners will be held on January 16 and 17 for men and women respectively.
