The Novato Police Department reported that the incident, which resulted in minor injuries to a mosque member, prompted an extensive search involving the California Highway Patrol's air support.
The confrontation unfolded when the assailant, allegedly armed with a concealed firearm, engaged in a scuffle with the victim, leading to the deployment of pepper spray, CBS News reported on Tuesday.
Surveillance footage facilitated the identification of the suspect, 48-year-old David Margoliash of San Rafael, who had reportedly visited the center before.

Following a collaborative effort by Marin County's law enforcement, Margoliash was arrested at his residence, where further evidence was discovered.
While charged with illegal possession of pepper spray and interference with a religious service, authorities found no substantial grounds for hate crime allegations as they believe the mosque was not a deliberate target.
In response to the incident, Novato police are actively engaging with local faith leaders to enhance security measures. The department urges anyone with information to contribute by contacting 415-897-4361, citing Case #24-0799.
