IQNA – A translator of the Quran into the English language said the war on the Gaza Strip has created greater interest in reading the Holy Book among Westerners.

Musharraf Hussain

Musharraf Hussain, whose work “The Majestic Quran: A Plain English Translation” was released in 2018, told Al Jazeera that new Muslim converts in the West have especially shown an interest to read English translations of the Holy Book to better understand the teachings of Islam.

He said that since the Israeli regime’s genocidal war on the Gaza Strip began in October 2023, sales of his translation have doubled in both print and digital formats.

Hussain said that has used an easy-to-understand language in his rendering in order to help new Muslim converts and those contemplating to embrace Islam better comprehend the concepts of the Quran.

He noted that he has avoided the approach of previous translators who have relied on a literal translation of the verses.

According to Hussain a number of religious institutions, including the Dar al-Ifta of Egypt, as well as many scholars and researchers, have endorsed his rendering.

Elsewhere in his remarks, he stressed the importance of supporting the people of Gaza and putting pressures on politicians to stop the Israeli regime’s war on the Palestinian enclave.
