IQNA – Winners of an international Quran competition in Zambia were awarded at a ceremony on the weekend.

The 13th edition of the African country’s competition on Quran memorization and Tajweed was held in the capital Lusaka last week.

Quran memorizers from different countries took part in the Quranic event.

The awarding ceremony was held at the Islamic University of Lusaka with a number of religious figures in attendance.

Those present included Sheikh Yusuf Ibrahim, the president of the university, and Abdul Muhsin bin Muhammad al-Qassim, the prayer leader of the Prophet’s Mosque in Medina.

In an address, al-Qassim appreciated the efforts of the organizers and teachers who are active in promoting Quran memorization among the youth.

He urged the contestants to continue learning the Quran remain committed to acting upon its teachings.

Zambia is a landlocked country in southern Africa and its neighbors are the Democratic Republic of Congo to the north, Tanzania to the north-east, Malawi to the east, Mozambique to the southeast, Zimbabwe and Botswana to the south, Namibia to the southwest, and Angola to the west.

The official language of the country is English and less than one percent of its population is Muslim.
