IQNA – An economic expert believes cutting the economic lifelines of the Israeli regime can be a "more effective" strategy to confront the regime in the long run.

"While missile strikes on occupied territories have an impact, cutting off Israel's economic lifelines would be more effective and should be pursued as a long-term strategy," Mirhadi Rahgoshay told IQNA on Thursday.

The comments come amid increased tensions in the region fueled by Israeli aggression on the Gaza Strip and Lebanon and its assassination campaign against resistance leaders.

"Public opinion and Islamic governments must come to believe that severing economic ties with Israel is essential," said the expert, adding that addressing this issue will not only reduce Israel's aggression but also ensure the security of the region and other Islamic countries.

"Initially, it might be argued that governments have legal commitments and dependencies. However, if public opinion moves in the suggested direction and shows a willingness to cease commercial cooperation with Israel, it will undoubtedly bring governments on board. Once governments are involved, more serious steps will be taken to sever economic relations with Israel, leading to positive developments in exports, imports, tourism, and investment, and eventually making economic conditions more difficult for Israel," he added.

Islamic countries constitute less than ten percent of Israel's foreign trade, Rahgoshay said, adding that most of the Israeli regime's trade is with Europe, the United States, and East Asia. "However, the significant and impactful point is that Israel relies on cooperation with its neighboring countries and other Islamic countries for transit. If these countries deny transit permissions to Israel, it will undoubtedly create challenging conditions for the regime."
