The Southeast Asian country’s 64th International Quran Recitation and Memorization Assembly (MTHQA) concluded in a ceremony in Kuala Lumpur on Saturday night where winners were named and awarded.
During the Quranic event, which had kicked off last Saturday, October 5, attention to the issue of Palestine was prominent at the competition venue.
The participants, organizers and audience and even members of the panel of judges carried Palestinian symbols like the flag of Palestine to demonstrate their support for the Palestinians.
There were also poetry recitals, songs and theatrical performances on the issue of Palestine and the Gaza Strip during the contest.
Also at the opening ceremony, Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim referred to the lack of unity in the Muslim world as the reason why the enemies dare to attack Muslims in places like Gaza, Palestine and Lebanon.
The 64th MTHQA, organized by the Department of Islamic Development Malaysia (JAKIM), featured 92 participants from 71 countries.
