Kuwait Launches 13th Int’l Quran Contest

IQNA – The inauguration ceremony of Kuwait’s 13th international Quran competition was held in Kuwait city on Wednesday evening.

Kuwait’s 13th international Quran competition got underway in Kuwait City on November 13, 2024.

 

Awqaf and Islamic Affairs Minister Mohammad Al-Wasmi, members of the panel of judges and the contestants attended the opening ceremony, Al-Anba newspaper reported.

The Awqaf minister said in his address that the people of Kuwait have strived to serve the Quran and memorize and act upon the divine verses for generations.

Another speaker was Deputy Awqaf Minister Badr al-Matiri who highlighted the competition’s development in terms of quality and quantity over the years.

He said 127 contenders from 75 countries are taking part in this edition of the competition.

The 13th Kuwait International Quran Award, featuring competitions in Quran memorization, recitation, and Tajweed, will run until November 20.

Iran has three representatives in the Quranic event.

Habib Sedaqat competes in the Quran recitation category and Mohammad Reza Zahedi vies for the top prize in the category of memorization of the Holy Quran for adults.

Iran’s representative in memorization of the entire Quran for children is Mohammad Hossein Malekinejad.

Since its establishment in 2010, the Kuwait international Quran contest, organized by Kuwait’s Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs, has encouraged young people worldwide to engage with the Quran through memorization, recitation, and Tajweed.

This year; the five main categories of the contest are entire Quran memorization, memorization with ten styles of recitation, recitation, youth memorization, and a special category for the best technical project serving the Quran.

Among the contenders, 75 are participating in the memorization category, 16 in the ten styles category, 13 in recitation, and 23 in the youth memorization category.

An exhibition themed "Recite as You Have Learned" will run alongside the competition. The exhibit will showcase various memorization methods, schools of Quranic study, and advancements in memorization techniques, offering attendees insight into the Quran's educational and cultural heritage.

The 12th edition of the contest was held last November, featuring 121 Quran qaris and memorizers from 70 countries.
