Students' Quran Contest Launched in Yemen

IQNA – The third edition of a Quran competition for university students began in Yemen’s capital of Sanaa on Saturday.

The September 21 University for Medical and Applied Sciences, is hosting the Quranic event, according to Sabanet website.

The competition has been organized by the country’s Higher Education Ministry in cooperation with the September 21 University for Medical and Applied Sciences.

Students from 25 state and private universities are competing for the top prizes.

Encouraging students to memorize the Quran and learn its recitation and Tajweed, strengthening faith and moral values, promoting Quranic culture among students, and increasing their knowledge of the Quran and Quranic sciences are among the objectives of holding the competition.

The participants compete in the categories of memorization of five, ten, and tenty Juzes (parts) and the entire Quran.

At the opening ceremony, Hatam al-Duais, a deputy minister of higher education, highlighted the importance of such Quranic event in encouraging students to memorize the Quran and enhance their recitation skills.

He also hailed the September 21 University for cooperation in holding the contest and called on other educational institutes and organizations to contribute to such events that promote the Quranic culture.
