The General Authority for Care of the Two Holy Mosque has said that visiting hours for men are spread daily over three periods. The first runs from 11:20am to 8pm; the second from 11pm to 12am; and the third from 2am to 5am.
Visiting hours for women are set daily from 6am to 11am.
A visit permit is issued every 365 days for the same worshipper.
Ramadan usually marks the peak season of the Umrah or minor pilgrimage in the Grand Mosque, Islam's holiest in Mecca.
After undertaking the Umrah, many pilgrims would head to Medina to perform prayers in the Prophet’s Mosque.
More than 14 million worshippers prayed in the Prophet's Mosque in the first half of Ramadan that began on March 1, according to Saudi official figures.
In 2023, Saudi authorities unveiled a gilded brass barrier surrounding the Sacred Chamber in the Prophet’s Mosque. The barrier replaced a wooden barrier to preserve the visual identity and architectural pattern of the mosque, officials said at the time.
The barrier has posts fixed to the bottom base by internal props, guaranteeing its immovability under pressure of human density, and easy maintenance.
