Praying rooms have been introduced at Techo International Airport in Takhmao City, Kandal Province, and Siem Reap–Angkor International Airport in Siem Reap Province. These facilities are intended for both domestic and international Muslim tourists.

The government stated the rooms reflect a policy of religious inclusiveness and harmony. They are also linked to Cambodia’s “Pentagonal Strategy – Phase I,” a national development plan with priorities including equity and sustainability.

The expansion of Muslim-friendly facilities corresponds with the Ministry of Tourism’s Muslim Tourism Development Plan. That plan seeks to increase Cambodia’s appeal as a destination for Muslim travelers and to grow this segment of the tourism sector, Khmer Times reported on Monday.

Muslims make up about 2% of Cambodia’s population, according to government and NGO estimates. Most are ethnic Cham, primarily Sunni of the Shafi’i school.
