Iraqi Scholar Stresses Islamic Unity as an Urgent Necessity

Seyyed Abdulqader Al-Alousi made the remarks in an interview with IQNA on the sidelines of the 39th International Islamic Unity Conference, held in Tehran last week and coincided with the 1,500th anniversary of the birth of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).

“The anniversary of the Prophet’s birth is itself a path toward Islamic unity, and this is something all Muslims agree upon,” Al-Alousi said.

He noted that the Muslim ummah came into existence thanks to the blessed birth of the Prophet and has continued its journey ever since. “Today, on the 1,500th anniversary of the Prophet’s birth, we see that the ummah needs to draw on this occasion and use it as a means to unite around one word,” he added.

The scholar warned that Muslims are now facing “a great danger,” with enemies plotting against them from all directions.

He stressed that the plight of Gaza and Palestine in particular requires solidarity among Muslims. “Islamic unity, considering the dangerous situation of the ummah, has become a necessity,” Al-Alousi said.

When asked how Muslims could apply the Prophet’s example in daily life, he described the Prophetic tradition as “a human-building model.”
