Winners of Croatia Int’l Quran Contest Honored

IQNA – The 31st edition of Croatia’s international Quran memorization and recitation competition concluded in a ceremony in Zagreb.

The competition was organized from September 25 to 28, 2025, by the Secretariat of the International European Quran Competition of Croatia, under the supervision of Qatar’s Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs.

A total of 62 participants from 37 countries participated in the Quranic event, competing in four categories: memorization of the entire Holy Quran, memorization of fifteen Juzes (parts) of the Quran, memorization of five Juzes, and recitation, El-Balad News reported.

The jury consisted of five experts, including Sheikh Aziz Elili (Croatia), chairman of the committee; Sheikh Yusuf Al-Hammadi (Qatar), Sheikh Hafez Osman Sahin (Turkey), Sheikh Shirzad Abdul Rahman Taher (Iraq), and Sheikh Bilal Baroudi (Lebanon).

The closing ceremony began with the recitation of the Quran and a welcoming speech by Sheikh Aziz Hasanović, the Grand Mufti of Croatia, who appreciated the presence of the Qatari delegation, ambassadors of Arab and European countries, and guests from government and diplomatic institutions.

Then the final results were announced and the winners were honored in the presence of the Grand Mufti of Croatia and the secretary general of the competition, Khalid Yaseen.

According to the panel of judges, Ibrahim Qassem from Yemen, Mahmoud Ahmed Hussein from Egypt, Islam Dalibi from Northern Macedonia, and Suleiman Talha Cukhdar from Turkey came first in the first to fourth categories, respectively.

In his speech at the awarding ceremony, Yaseen stated that the contest has become one of the most prominent international Quranic events, witnessing an increase in interest and acceptance among reciters and memorizers.

The ceremony was accompanied by an Islamic heritage exhibition and educational lectures to improve memorization and recitation of the Quran. The ceremony ended with a prayer and group photos of participants and guests.
