IQNA – On average, more than 5,000 residents of Kordestan province attend the national Quran competition each day, an official says.

The 48th edition of Iran’s National Quran Competition began on October 18 in Sanandaj and will conclude on October 27 with a closing ceremony featuring national, provincial, and public figures.

Hojjat al-Islam Mohammad Karvand, head of the Kordestan Department of Endowments and Charity Affairs, said: “This time we witnessed unprecedented public reception for the competition. The main hall and the second hall were full, and there was not even seating space in the courtyard.”

Karvand added that participants from 31 provinces have gathered in Sanandaj after advancing from provincial rounds.

Karvand said there will be no event in the main complex in the morning of the closing day. The ceremony is scheduled for 6 pm.

He also explained that top competitors in each category will be honored. In some divisions, awards go up to fifth place, and top winners will advance to international competitions.

He reiterated that “on average, more than 5,000 people daily enter the halls and surrounding areas of the competition and watch the events.”

Karvand also highlighted the ethnic and regional diversity of attendance. He noted that people from various parts of the country came to Kordestan, and that residents from Sanandaj and nearby counties attended in traditional Kurdish dress, creating a special spiritual and cultural atmosphere.
