In a solemn ceremony held on Monday, the green flag on the gilded dome of the Imam Reza Shrine was replaced with a black one as a symbol of mourning. The event took place in the presence of shrine custodians, servants, pilgrims, and local residents, who gathered to honor Lady Fatima (SA) — regarded in Islam as a paragon of piety, compassion, and resistance against injustice.
During the ceremony, the black covering over the shrine’s sacred enclosure (dharih) was also renewed, marking the beginning of days of mourning at the holy site.
Watch:
In keeping with the occasion, all courtyards, minarets, and the Saqqakhaneh (water pavilion) within the shrine complex have been draped in black banners bearing inscriptions of Lady Fatima’s (SA) blessed name.
Special mourning rituals, recitations, and sermons are scheduled throughout the week to pay tribute to her spiritual legacy.

It houses the resting place of Imam Ali ibn Musa al-Reza (AS), the eighth Shia Imam, and attracts millions of pilgrims each year. The complex also includes vast courtyards, libraries, seminaries, and museums, serving as both a spiritual and cultural hub.
