IQNA – The spokesman for Iran’s Foreign Ministry deplored the continuation of the Israeli regime’s crimes in the Gaza Strip, saying the situation there is more critical than before.

Iran’s Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei

Speaking at a press conference in Tehran on Sunday, Esmaeil Baghaei referred to developments in the West Asian region, saying, “The developments in the region continue to revolve around Gaza and Lebanon, and unfortunately, the crimes committed by the Zionist regime continue. The cold winter, rainfall, and adverse weather conditions have made the situation of the oppressed people of the Gaza Strip even more critical than before.”

He added that new statistics show that a large number of the victims of these crimes are children, and the Israeli regime’s actions are part of the ongoing process of eliminating Gaza.

“Direct attacks on Palestinian citizens continue, and in the most recent case, we have witnessed the martyrdom of at least 10 Palestinians,” he said.

Condemning the crimes in Palestine and the repeated violations of national sovereignty of countries amid the inaction of international institutions, he said, “Unfortunately, the international community and international institutions have been unable to take any serious action to confront this situation due to the insistence of the United States and some other Western countries on granting absolute immunity to the Zionist regime.”

Baghaei referred to the advisory opinion of the International Court of Justice against the Israeli regime and the continued support of some countries for this regime, saying, “What we are witnessing today in Gaza is a clear genocide. This is not just our claim, but rather an expression of a reality on the ground that has been repeatedly emphasized in international forums and institutions. The recent ruling of the International Court of Justice is just one of dozens, if not hundreds, of rulings issued condemning the actions of the Zionist regime, which focus on the obligations of this occupying regime within the framework of international law.”

He added, “This ruling explicitly emphasizes the need to adhere to the principles and rules of international law, but the Zionist regime has not only failed to comply with these obligations, but has also violated them extensively. The issuance of this advisory opinion once again confirms the commission of crimes in the occupied Palestinian territories and reminds each state of the responsibility to stop these crimes.”

Elsewhere in his remarks, Baghaei said a significant part of the instability in the region, as well as the formation of terrorist movements, has been a direct result of US interventions and meddling, interventions that even some US officials have acknowledged as wrong.

“Admitting that these policies are wrong means accepting responsibility, and the US must be held accountable for the damages and consequences of these actions.”

The Foreign Ministry spokesperson expressed regret over the continuation of this approach and said, “Unfortunately, the United States continues to insist on continuing the past path. The content of the US National Security Document clearly shows that its main concern is to secure the interests of the Zionist regime. Washington continues to interfere in the internal affairs of the countries of the region, and each time, with a new excuse, it pursues the same contemptuous view of the nations of the region and attempts to impose its views.”
