
Senator Mark Warner said in a speech at the US Senate that some officials’ remarks and actions have worsened the hostile atmosphere against Arab and Muslim communities.
He warned that anti-Muslim political rhetoric can lead to further rise in Islamophobia in Western societies, Anadolu reported.
Warner referred to recent racist statements against US citizens originally from Somalia and said such remarks have raised concerns among Muslims about escalation of violence and hate crimes against them in US and Europe.
He called on all politicians to decisively and unequivocally condemn all forms and religious and ethnic discriminations.

Efforts against discrimination and racism must continue all the time and should not be limited to certain events, he said, emphasizing the important role of civil society and educational institutes in promoting values such as tolerance and peaceful coexistence.
