Iran Names Representatives in Lebanon Int’l Quran Contest
The contest is planned to be held in the Lebanese capital of Beirut ahead of the holy month of Ramadan.
Mehdi Rashtbari and Mohammad Reza Jafarpour will compete for Iran in the categories of Quran recitation and Quran memorization respectively.
They were selected after competing with other Iranian contenders in the first stage of the event, which was held virtually.
In the recitation category, the received recitations were evaluated by a group of judges, and then, under the guidance of Gholamreza Shahmiveh and Ahmad Abolghasemi, Saeed Rahmani, and Seyed Mohammad Hadi Qassemi, the recitations of some of the qaris who received higher scores were sent to the Technical Committee of the Lebanese Competition, and ultimately, Mehdi Rashtbari qualified.
In memorization, six of the country’s selected memorizers who received the highest scores in the virtual round were invited to the city of Qom for in-person evaluation, and through a selection test, Mohammad Reza Jafarpour was finally introduced as the representative of the Islamic Republic of Iran to participate in the Lebanese competition.
The Cultural Center of the Islamic Republic of Iran in Lebanon has organized the “Al-Sadiq Al-Amin” international Holy Quran competition in cooperation with the Holy Quran Society of Lebanon.
After the conclusion of the preliminary round, the semi-final and final stages of the competition, for men aged 18 to 40, will be held in person in Beirut on February 14 and 15.

The judging criteria in the recitation category include observing the rules of Tajweed (40 points), Sawt (15 points), Waqf and Ibtida (20 points), and tone (25 points).
In memorization, the judging criteria are quality of memorization (70 points) and quality of recitation (30 points).
