IQNA – The fifth episode of the third Al-Ameed international Quran recitation competition in Karbala, Iraq, hosted Shukrieh Rahiw, a woman who managed to memorize the entire Quran at the age of 71.

The competition has been held with the support of the Holy Quran Scientific Assembly of the Astan (custodianship) of Hazrat Abbas (AS) holy shrine and with the participation of a group of reciters from 20 Arab and non-Arab countries.

A committee of international reciters including Sheikh Muhammad Bassiouni from Egypt, Bassem Al-Abidi and Mushtaq Al-Ali from Iraq, Sheikh Muhammad Asfour from Egypt, Sayed Hassanein Al-Helou from Iraq and Seyed Karim Mousavi from Iran are supervising this competition.

In the fifth episode, Mohsen Qassemi from Iran, Mustafa Jadid from Algeria and Muhammad Iqbal from Indonesia participated and competed in the adult category.

This episode also featured Shukrieh Rahiw, who embarked on a new spiritual journey and succeeded in memorizing the entire Quran despite her advanced age and life’s challenges.

After the martyrdom of her husband and brothers, she spent many years suffering and hardship, taking on great responsibilities to raise her daughter, and was patient and persistent in the face of difficulties.

Despite the hardships of the circumstances, she did not give up, but continued to strive until her daughter was able to achieve her dream and become a dentist.

Today, Shukrieh Rahiw continues her struggle with faith and determination to prove that achieving dreams is not limited by age and that willpower, despite all challenges and hardships, is capable of creating hope.
