IQNA – A US advocacy group described a recent US-Israeli attack on a mosque in Iran as a violation of international protections for cultural and religious sites.

Israeli and US forces carry out airstrikes on Iran, including an attack on historic Azam Mosque in Iran’s northern city of Zanjan (late March 2026).

The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), the United States’ largest Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization, on Wednesday called for accountability following the US-Israel bombing of the historic mosque in Iran.

“Blowing up mosques in Iran risks turning this illegal war for Israel into a war on Islam for Israel. The Trump administration must reveal who conducted this attack on a mosque and hold them accountable, whether officials in the Pentagon or Israel,” CAIR said.

CAIR previously called on Congress to conduct a transparent and independent investigation into the massacre of 165 schoolgirls and teachers at an Iranian elementary school in a bombing perpetrated by the United States or Israel amid their joint illegal aggression against Iran.

Last month, CAIR called on Congress to force an end to the US-Israel war on Iran after former Director of the National Counterterrorism Center Joe Kent resigned and admitted that the war was initiated “due to pressure from Israel and its powerful American lobby.”
