
In order to support scientific research and promote specialized Islamic studies, Osama Al-Azhari, the Egyptian minister of Awqaf, participated in the defense of the master’s thesis during an official visit to the Suez Canal University, Al-Shorouk reported.
The thesis, presented by researcher Muhammad Hamdi Abdel Rasoul Abu Ahmed, entitled “Maktabs and Their Impact on Islamic Identity (Egypt as a Model) (From 1882 to 2023)”, deals with the role of Quranic schools throughout history in strengthening religious and cultural identity in Egyptian society.
The thesis was defended under the supervision of a scientific committee consisting of Adel al-Sawi Abu Zayd, professor of Islamic propagation and culture and deputy head of the Faculty of Principles of Religion and Propagation at Al-Azhar University in Menoufia, and Mohamed Hussein al-Sayed, lecturer in Islamic history at the Faculty of Literature at Suez Canal University.

It was also evaluated by a refereeing committee headed by Mohamed Mohamed Daoud, retired professor of linguistics at the Faculty of Literature at Suez Canal University, and supervised by Adel al-Sawi Abu Zayd and Osama al-Azhari.
The discussion and defense of this thesis was held on Saturday, May 23, 2026, in the hall of the African-Asian Center for Postgraduate Studies, in line with the university’s commitment to supporting studies that address issues related to Islamic heritage and its impact on the formation of cultural and religious identity.
