IQNA – Sheikh Ahmed Qabalan, the Jafari Mufti of Lebanon, warned the country’s president against divisive actions and remarks.

Sheikh Ahmed Qabalan

Sheikh Qabalan wrote in a letter to Joseph Aoun, “You are in a position that should unite the nation, not create division, otherwise you will lose your national credibility,” Al-Ahed News reported.

He added, “We do not want you to make a mistake in identifying the interests and concerns of Lebanon. Therefore, we advise you to stop taking such positions that are not worthy of the dignity and position of the presidency.”

According to the letter, “The presidency was created to symbolize the commonalities of the great Lebanese family, not to be a factor in its division.”

He also criticized the president’s defending of granting security privileges to the Zionist regime.

Nabih Berri, the Speaker of the Parliament, is a historical symbol in this regard and many can learn from him and take as an example, Sheikh Qabalan stated.

“Mr. President, do not talk to us about the representation of the people because talking about national and popular representation starts with Nabih Berri and (Hezbollah chief) Sheikh Naim Qassem.”

Sheikh Qabalan added that any national institution that does not represent the south, the southern suburbs of Beirut and the Bekaa region does not represent Lebanon.

“National institutions that do not represent the people, fronts, sovereignty and their national battles do not benefit from popular and national representation.”

He went on to emphasize that if it were not for the legendary resistance that in this war crushed the Zionist regime’s war machine along the entire southern borders, Israel would be arriving at the Baabda Palace (Lebanon's presidential palace) by now.

Sheikh Qabalan also criticized Aoun’s remarks against Iran, saying Tehran is the party that provided the greatest historical support for the liberation of the land of Lebanon in 2000 and is still adhering to its promise so that Lebanon is not swallowed up in the plans of the United States and the wars of the Israeli regime.
