IQNA – The secretary general of Hezbollah said the Zionist regime seeks social, military and cultural elimination of the resistance movement.

Addressing a Muharram mourning ceremony, Sheikh Naim Qassem emphasized that the ultimate goal of this regime is to annex Lebanon to the occupied territories, Al-Manar reported.

The resistance in Lebanon is confronting Israeli aggression and evidence shows that Israel wants a weak Lebanon so that it can occupy and annex it, he said, adding that the enemy’s prime minister has openly declared a “Greater Israel” agenda.

He emphasized that Israel’s project in Lebanon is the social, military and cultural elimination of Hezbollah, and this amounts to the destruction of a large part of the Lebanese people through killing, displacement and transfer to other places, with the aim of facilitating the annexation of Lebanon.

The secretary general of Hezbollah stated, “We are facing an existential threat and we are defending our lives, future, children and path.”

He added, “If we had not stood firm, Lebanon would not have survived for years, and if the resistance and its people had not stood firm, Lebanon would not have been saved. This resistance and its people have paid a heavy price in confronting the most dangerous project against Lebanon.”

The senior cleric emphasized, “We have shattered the Greater Israel project. We want to take advantage of this critical moment in which we are.

“What has remained steadfast is not the military aspect, but the faith that provides unwavering determination and will. We are strong through three pillars of strength: faith, resolve and ability.”

Referring to Hezbollah’s heroic resistance in the face of the Israeli regime’s aggression, he said, “The number of enemy vehicles that were targeted was 518 and the number of aircraft targeted was 85. We shot down 12 drones and hit a helicopter. The resistance carried out 3,185 operations, which is an average of 30 operations per day.”

He added, “We are confident of victory in achieving Lebanese sovereignty over our land and rights and expelling Israel from Lebanese soil.”

Pointing to negotiation with the Zionist regime, Sheikh Qassem said, “Should we negotiate just to give what the Israelis want? The ceiling for negotiations with the enemy is mutual security, and any project under the name of disarmament will not be feasible. What the enemy could not achieve through war, it wants to achieve through politics. Israel must go and will go.”

Hailing Iran’s support for Lebanon, including in the negotiations to end the US-Israeli aggression, he said the balance of power in the region will change.

“Do not underestimate what was happening in the war against Iran. The goal of overthrowing the Iranian establishment and destroying the honorable and dignified life in revolutionary Iran has failed.”
