
A ceremony was also held in the city to replace the flag of the dome of the shrine of Lady Khawla (SA), daughter of Imam Hussein (AS), with a black flag, which marks the beginning of the revival of Ashura gatherings and ceremonies in this region, Al-Ahed news website reported.
At this ceremony, Hajj Hussein Nasrallah, the custodian of the holy shrine, delivered a speech.
“Peace be upon our master, Imam Hussein (AS). O master of martyrs, the families of the martyrs of the Islamic resistance send you greetings from this holy place. They offered their sons and wives and sacrificed everything they had for this cause,” he said.


He added, “Today, we stand in the holy courtyard of Sayidah Khawla (SA) to raise the mourning flag to mark the beginning of the month of Muharram 1448 AH and to announce the beginning of the mourning ceremony for our master, Imam Hussein (AS), his brothers, children and companions. We offer our condolences to Aba Abdillah (AS), the bravery of this Imam is an honor for us and an honor for the Ummah in this era.”
Muharram is the first month in the lunar Hijri calendar.

The third Shia Imam (AS) and a small group of his followers and family members were martyred by the tyrant of his time - Yazid Bin Muawiya, in the battle of Karbala on the tenth day of Muharram (known as Ashura) in the year 680 AD.
This year, the month of Muharram started on Tuesday, June 16, and the day of Ashura will fall on June 25.
