10th Arbaeen Int’l Conference Begins in Karbala
The secretary general of the Astan (custodianship) of the holy shrine and a group of religious, academic and officials from different countries attended the opening ceremony, the Noon al-Akhbariya website reported.
The speakers at the ceremony described the annual Arbaeen procession as a global phenomenon with scientific, cultural and civilizational potential.
Abdul Amir Al-Qurayshi, head of the Karbala Studies and Research Center, stated that the Arbaeen pilgrimage is an exceptional human phenomenon that has been able to redefine the concept of the relationship between faith, man, and civilization, and has transcended geographical and cultural boundaries and become a global message for the conscience of humanity.
He called on researchers to study the various dimensions of this great event, explain the factors and laws of its success, and benefit from its scientific achievements in the service of humanity and society.
Referring to the growing trend of this conference, Al-Qurayshi said that in the past nine editions, more than 300 scientific and research figures from different countries have attended the scholarly event.
In the tenth edition, 290 scientific papers were accepted, he said, noting that this figure was 144 papers in the previous edition.
This significant increase reflects the expansion of the scientific community and the increased participation of researchers in studies related to the Arbaeen pilgrimage, he emphasized.
The head of the Karbala Studies and Research Center also considered the continued presence of scholars from the universities of Mosul and Anbar since the fifth edition to date as a sign of the expansion of the scope of academic research on Arbaeen and assessed it as an expression of the expansion of scientific cooperation in this field.

He concluded by stating that the participants in this conference have recommended that the spiritual, moral and human values of the Arbaeen pilgrimage be included in the curriculum and educational programs in cooperation with the Iraqi ministries of education and higher education.
