IQNA – The qualifying round of competitions for the 28th National Quran Week in Algeria was held in the country on Monday.

Youssef Belmahdi, Algeria’s minister of religious affairs and Awqaf, supervised the start of the activities of the qualifying competitions.
The qualifying round was held via video conference, Al-Janoub El-Kabir website reported.
Speaking at the competitions, Belmahdi said this major competition, which is being held with the support of Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune, demonstrates the central position of the Quran in the life of the Islamic nation and its historical role in preserving national identity and consolidating moral values in society.
He added that attention to the Quran, teaching it, and honoring the people of the Quran are pursued within the framework of the process of preserving religious and national authority in Algeria.
Belmahdi praised the efforts made to continuously develop Quranic institutions and improve the training of teachers and professors working in Quranic schools and Zawiyas (traditional Quranic education centers), noting that these efforts have contributed to the proud results achieved by Algerian participants in various international Quranic circles and competitions.
He emphasized that the local Quran competitions held last July in various Algerian provinces witnessed the participation of 1,500 people from the age groups of adolescents, youth and adults, as well as participants in literacy programs.
The Algerian official added that these competitions led to the selection of 200 to participate in the current national stage, which will be held in six categories.

After this stage, 60 participants are scheduled to advance to the finals of the competitions of the 28th National Quran Week, which is scheduled to be held in the province of Bejaia on the first 10 days of September.
It is worth mentioning that the National Quran Week is one of the most important Quranic activities in Algeria, which is held every year with various Quranic programs.
Holding a national Quran memorization, interpretation and recitation competition is one of the programs of this Quranic event, and the best participants in this competition are celebrated at the closing ceremony.
The activities of the National Quran Week, which is held with the support of the president of Algeria, are part of the special programs for the celebration of the Holy Prophet’s (PBUH) birthday.
