Mauritanian government’s spokesman Sayed Mohammad Walad Muhim said the government will bring to justice those behind desecration of the Muslim Holy Book.

He said the government will act seriously against the perpetrators of the act of sacrilege, Eram news reported.
On Monday, March 3, four unidentified men entered a mosque in the capital Nouakchott, removed four copies of the Quran, and desecrated them.
As news spread about the incident, thousands of people gathered in front of the presidential palace to show their anger.
The demonstration got violent as police used tear gas to disperse the protesters.
One of the demonstrators, a university student, was killed in the clashes, reportedly for inhaling a large amount of tear gas.
Walad Muhim said security apparatuses have begun investigations into the case and will arrest the perpetrators.
Mauritania’s Islamic affairs minister had earlier ensured the public that the government and the security apparatus will strive to protect the sanctities.
The Islamic Republic of Mauritania is a country in the Maghreb region of western North Africa. Virtually all Mauritanians are Muslim.
