OIC Secretary General Appoints a Special Envoy for CAR
He is Dr. Cheikh Tidiane Gadio, a former Minister for Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Senegal. An experienced mediator, a distinguished academician and a top level politician, Dr Gadio had served his country as head of its diplomacy for close to a decade from early 2000 to late 2009. He is currently the President of an independent Think Tank, the Institute for Pan-African Strategies based in Dakar, Senegal.
The appointment of Dr Gadio comes in the wake of the OIC Emergency Executive Committee Meeting on the grave situation prevailing in the Central African Republic held on 20th February 2014 at Ministerial level in Jeddah which among other things, requested the Secretary General to urgently designate a Special Envoy for the CAR.
Mr. Madani, while expressing confidence that Dr. Gadio would use his vast knowledge, skills and contacts to realize the objectives of his new assignment, also urged all OIC Member States to extend to him their full support for the success of the mission.
