Protests in Egypt against Cancelation of Sending Qaris Abroad

Quran reciters in Egypt will hold a rally to protest against the move by the country's Awqaf Ministry to call off plans to dispatch Qaris to other countries.

The rally is planned to be staged in front of the Awqaf ministry in Cairo this Thursday, Al-Bawaba news website reported.
Every year, the ministry dispatches Quran reciters to different countries during the holy month of Ramadan for holding Quran recitation programs. But this year it has decided not to send Qaris aboard.
The decision was made while Egypt's Association of Quran Reciters was planning to hold an examination to select the best Qaris for going abroad.
The association criticized the Awqaf ministry's decision and said it would provoke protests.
