The Tunisian government said it has retaken control of 98 mosques from Salafist groups.

Abdul Sattar Badr, an official with the religious affairs ministry, said however, that Salafists still run 52 other mosques, businessnews reported.
He added that the government has decided to take control of all mosques in the country by the end of summer.
Earlier, Tunisia's religious minister had said some of the mosques are run by dangerous extremists.
Extremists have been making trouble in Tunisia since the overthrow of former president Zine El Abidine Ben Ali.
Tunisians took to the streets across the country last week to protest against extremism and terrorism, denouncing the escalation of violence in the North African country.
They expressed opposition to any form of terrorism, condemning the rise of violence in the country.
Many believe the recent violence is a result of foreign support to the armed groups that threaten Tunisia’s stability. Experts argue that Salafist and Takfiri groups control some mosques and preach hate speech to fuel conflicts in the Arab world.
