"Indonesia shall become the world's hub for Muslim fashion in 2020. We have an abundance of creative Muslim wear with bold designs; we have a lot of potential," Mari said on the sidelines of Indonesian Creative Products Week (PPKI) in Batam on Friday, as quoted by Antara news agency.
She hopes that every region can develop its potential for producing Muslim fashion.
She said that the government has held an annual Muslim clothing festival for the past few years in Jakarta in order to strengthen the country's position as a mecca for Muslim fashion.
In addition, the government is collaborating with three Muslim clothing designers, including Dian Pelangi, to participate in important fashion events outside the country.
"We took [Dian Pelangi] to London [UK] and the response was incredible," Mari said.
PPKI 2014 is being held from June 6 to 13, in conjunction with the 25th National Musabaqah Tilawatil Quran (MTQ), a Koran recitation contest.
