Winners of Algeria Int'l Quran Contest Awarded

In a ceremony held Thursday night, winners of Algeria's 11th international Holy Quran competition were awarded.

A number Algerian political and religious officials as well as diplomats from Arab and Islamic countries were present at the ceremony held in the grand mosque in the capital city of Algiers, al-Khabar daily reported.
The competition's panel of judges announced Ahmed Nael Is'haq from Palestine as the winner of the top title.
Zahra Hani from Algeria and Quda Othman Rajim from Cameroon came second and third, respectively.
Members of the panel, including Rushdi Suwaidi from Syria, Abdul Aziz Matar al-Unzi from Kuwait, and Amir al-Arabi from Algeria were also honored at the ceremony.
The competition began on Thursday, July 17 under the supervision of President Abdelaziz Bouteflika.
Representatives from 66 countries attended the international section of the event, which was held for Quran reciters and memorizers under the age of 25.
It also included a national section where teenagers under the age of 15 competed for the top prize.
Algeria's religious affairs ministry, the organizer of the competition, said it was held with the aim of promoting memorization of the Holy Quran.
Ali Reza Feizi represented the Islamic Republic of Iran in Algeria's international Quranic event.
