An Islamic center for peace and justice has been opened in a ceremony in Thailand.

According to IQNA’s branch in South East Asia, the opening ceremony was attended by more than a thousand religious and scientific figures, representatives of Islamic centers, university lecturers, foreign countries' ambassadors to Thailand and the Iranian cultural attaché in the country.

The “Al-Wasatiyyah” Center for Peace and Justice has been established at the Office of Thailand’s Sheikh-ul-Islam in cooperation with Al-Wasatiyyah International Center of Kuwait.

The center's name comes from the verse 143 of Surah Baqarah which says “وَکَذَٰلِکَ جَعَلْنَاکُمْ أُمَّةً وَسَطًا”/ wa kazalika ja’alnakum Ummatan Wasata (Thus We appointed you a midmost nation).

Given the activities of extremists in the Muslim world, which are the result of neglecting the Holy Quran’s principles, the center aims to provide an opportunity of peace and justice through dissemination of the Quranic teachings and developing mutual understanding in the world.
