Int’l Cultural Festival Begins in Iraq

The third edition of “Haleef Al-Quran” international cultural festival began on November 14 in Babil Governorate of Iraq.


According to Sotaliraq website, the festival is organized by the custodianship of Martyr Zaid (AS) holy shrine in cooperation with the officials in charge of Shia holy sites in Iraq, including the custodianship of the holy shrines of Imam Hussein (AS) and Hazrat Abbas (AS).

A number of cultural institutes from Iraq and other countries, cultural and academic figures, representatives from the holy shrines in Iraq, experts from Najaf Seminary, researchers and university teachers and students have participated at the event.

The organizing committee of the festival announced that many papers on the life and thoughts of Zaid (AS) have been submitted to the secretariat of the festival.

Zaid bin Ali bin Al-Hussein (AS) was the son of Imam Sajjad (AS) and the grandson of Imam Hussein (AS). He is known as a noble Shia figure in the Muslim world. Shia scholars have praised his character and described him as a role-model of piety, brevity, etc.

Zaid (AS) was also described as “Haleef Al-Quran” (a friend of Quran) since most of his life time was spent with the Divine Book.

Zaid bin Ali Al-Hussein (AS) was martyred in 121 A.H. There are two shrines for Zaid (AS), one is in Kufa, Iraq, the other is in Karak, Jordan. The shrine in Jordan is believed to be the final resting place of his head.

The international festival will conclude on November 15.
