In an interview with IQNA, Seyyed Suheil Najm Abdullah Al-Musawi urged that Quran memorization masters devote sometime in the memorization courses to clarifying the meaning of the verses.
Referring to verse 17 of Surah Qamar “And We have certainly made the Quran easy for remembrance, so is there any who will remember?”, he underlined the importance of teaching Quran memorization.
“Imam Ali (AS) in one of the sermons of Nahj-ul-Balaqa points to teaching Quran as one of the responsibilities of parents,” he further said.
Al-Musawi underlined that certain points should be taken into consideration when it comes to learning the Quran by heart.
“First of all, the best of times during the day should be allocated for Quran memorization. These include the hours before and after dawn prayer, after Noon and Asr prayers and about 1.5 hours before Maghrib, and any other time when the mind is free and keen on learning the Quran.”
He said the best places, such as mosques should also be used when one memorizes the Quran, urging memorizers to sit facing the Qibla (direction to Ka’aba).
Director of the Nour Al-Mobin Quranic Center in Basra added that when memorizing the Quran, one should have peace of mind.
“Another point to remember is that he should use only one copy of the Quran because different copies with different print formats could make it difficult for learning the verses by heart. Also, it is good for the memorizers to recite to others the verses they have memorized.
Al-Musawi pointed to Nazm (order and regularity), that Imam Ali (AS) has recommended, as an important factor in successful Quran memorization. “Moreover, Quran memorizers should be devoted to the Quran and its teachings, have self-confidence and be steadfast in their efforts for learning the Quran by heart.”
The Iraqi scholar said the memorizers should review the verses they have learned at least two times a day, and be careful to properly pronounce the words when reading and reciting the verses.
He stressed that in order for Quran memorizers to be able to read the verses accurately, they need to be familiar with the science of Tajweed.
“They should memorize the verses based on the principles of Tajweed, which are necessary for accurate recitation of the Quran.”
Director of the Nour Al-Mobin Quranic Center further said there should be a practical and preplanned approach to memorization of the Quran. “I, myself, followed a certain method for memorizing the Quran in childhood.”
He further called on government to support the civil society institutes, Dar-ol-Quran centers and Quranic organizations in order to promote the Quranic culture in society and raising Quranic generations in the Islamic society.
Pointing to the activities of the Nour Al-Mobin Quranic Center, Al-Musawi said it organizes Quranic circles, seminars and Quranic weeks.
“The center held a Quranic week titled “Velayat” in the lunar month of Dhul-Hajja,” he said, adding that it included a seminar titled “How to Live Based on the Quran” attended by prominent scholars from Najaf Seminary as well as academicians.
