Iraqi officials said the bomb explosions targeted districts including Sadr City, Habibiya and Qahira on Sunday.
The initial police reports put the number of injuries at 56.
No group has claimed the responsibility of the bomb attacks.
On Saturday, Brigadier General Aouni Ali, the head of Iraq’s main intelligence academy, and two of his bodyguards were killed in a similar attack carried out in the northern city of Mosul.
Bombings have recently increased across Iraq. The government has stepped up efforts to boost security across the country over the past few months.
On February 8, over 35 people were killed and nearly 100 others injured in a series of car bombings in mainly Shia areas of Iraq, including the southern city of Karbala.
