A total of 51 guests from Brazil, Argentina, Spain, Lebanon, Peru, Puerto Rico, Haiti, Mexico, France, among other countries, will attend the 9th International Book Fair of Venezuela (Filven), which takes place from 8 to 17 March, in the open spaces of the Teresa Carreño Theater.
The president of the National Book Center (Cenal), Christhian Valles, announced that this cultural festival, which will pay tribute to the Venezuelan poet and essayist Gustavo Pereira, will involve 114 national and 28 international exhibitors, including 196 stands. The fair will feature a children's ward and another one from the Ministry for Culture.
In addition, there will be 141 activities presenting up to three and four titles each, as well as 96 lectures will be held during these days.
Minister for Culture, Pedro Calzadilla said that the 9th Fair has become the cultural and spiritual epicenter of Caracas.
"The people have made the fair a charming place for the encounter of readers with authors," he said.
He highlighted the efforts of president Hugo Chavez, as the main promoter of reading in the country. "Chavez turned the book into an instrument for claiming a people, their culture, an instrument for the realization of emancipation. Venezuela has made reading an essential tool for building a free and sovereign nation."
He stressed that this role as a promoter has been linked to a systematic and consistent policy executed correctly by cultural management of the Revolution that was able to reverse a reality that existed 14 years ago.
"One of the great achievements of the Bolivarian Revolution is turning the book into an everyday experience," he said.
