Speaking at a press conference on Sunday, May 26, secretary of the committee Mohammad Ali Ansari added that the ceremony marking the 24th anniversary of Imam Khomeini’s (RA) demise will begin at 9 A.M. on Tuesday, June 4, with the recitation of verses from the Holy Quran and will continue with speeches by Hojat-ol-Islam Sayyed Hassan Khomeini and Imam Khamenei.
He said the doors of Imam Khomeini’s (RA) shrine will be open to the pilgrims from Monday night, June 3, and that people can go to the holy shrine to renew allegiance with the aspirations of the late founder of the Islamic Republic of Iran.
Mr. Ansari noted that 263 foreign guests from different countries will attend the programs marking the anniversary.
“Some 458 individuals from various countries had applied for taking part in the programs, the applications of 263 of whom were accepted.”
He further said the demise of Imam Khomeini (RA) was the biggest event in the Iranian nation’s contemporary history.
“The character of Imam Khomeini (RA) is so influential and attractive that any occasion linked to Imam Khomeini (RA) becomes a historic one.”
Elsewhere in his remarks, Ansari pointed to elections in view of Imam Khomeini (RA) and said the late founder of the Islamic Republic of Iran institutionalized elections in the country in a way that no one can disrupt holding elections in the country.
Imam Khomeini (RA) passed away on June 3, 1989, eleven days after he was taken to hospital for an operation to stop internal bleeding.
