His Eminence made the statement on Wednesday, May 29, in a meeting with members of the Majlis (parliament), urging everyone to make efforts for vibrant and enthusiastic elections.
Imam Khamenei underlined that the Islamic Republic of Iran’s Islamic Establishment is rooted in people’s all-out support.
His Eminence referred to public support as the source of blessings and dignity for the country and the establishment, stressing that the elections, as a manifestation of public presence in the scene, should be held vibrantly.
Imam Khamenei highlighted Iranian people’s vigilance and insight and said it is important that people vote with knowledge and insight.
His Eminence also underlined that presidential candidates have a heavy responsibility and should be cautious not to make inaccurate statements in their campaigning.
What the candidates say must be true and based on accurate and truthful information, the Supreme Leader said. “The presidential candidates must tell the reality both about the country’s conditions and about themselves.”
His Eminence also urged the candidates to avoid smearing other candidates or distorting the realities of the country.
Elsewhere in his statements, Imam Khamenei referred to membership of parliament as an opportunity for serving in the Islamic Republic and at the same time a sensitive and great test before God.
Imam Khamenei urged the MPs to be vigilant to successfully pass this test.
His Eminence said the presence of MP with different expertise in the Majlis shows the great capacity of the Majlis to consider plans and bills carefully and expertly.
Imam Khamenei also said that in terms of political stances, the Majlis has taken proper and correct stances in the past year.
At the beginning of his speech, the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution thanked the efforts made by the Majlis speaker and members of the parliament in the past year.
Before Imam Khamenei’s speech, Majlis Speaker Ali Larijani presented a report about the performance of Majlis.
He also regarded the upcoming elections as very sensitive in the current regional and international juncture and hoped people’s massive turnout in the polls will create a great political epic.
Iranians will go to the polls in the nation’s 11th presidential election on June 14.
