Organized by the Senegalese Muslim Youth Association, it will be attended by representatives of 50 Quran schools from around Senegal as well as representatives from 8 other countries in West Africa.
President of the Ahmad Salum Din said as well as Senegal, Quran reciters and memorizers from Mali, Gambia, Mauritania, Burkina Faso, Sierra Leone, Togo, Guinea Conakry and Guinea Bissau will take part in the international event.
He said they will compete in the categories of recitation of the Quran and memorization of the Holy Book (at three levels).
Salum Din added that on the sidelines of the contest, a conference titled “Peace in the World” is planned to be convened with the participation of African Muslim thinkers and religious and cultural authorities of Senegal.
The 21st regional Quran competition of West Africa is set to kick off on July 20 with the participation of Senegal’s president, mayor of Thies and ambassadors of Muslim countries.
