A rare manuscript copy of the Holy Quran has been discovered in the Grand Mosque in the Yemeni capital of Sana’a.
The copy was found when the mosque was being renovated and repaired, elbashayeronline website said.
The old Quran manuscript dates back to the first Islamic century (on the lunar Hijri calendar) and has Hijazi style of calligraphy.
The operation to renovate the Grand Mosque in Sana’a has been underway with the cooperation of a group of experts and archeologists and international organizations like UNESCO.
Modern technologies such as X-ray radiography were used in this operation, which helped to discover hidden spaces in the walls of the mosque.
