TEHRAN (IQNA) - A Syrian Quran memorizer said the International Holy Quran Competition for Muslim Students is a venue that convenes young Quran activists from around the world.

Muhammad Jamil al-Mahrous, who will represent Syria in the fifth edition of the competition, told IQNA that it will be an opportunity for the participating university students to exchange their Quranic experiences and views. He added that such competitions are important steps towards promoting Quranic activities among the youth and encouraging them to learn and memorize the Quran. He further called for the category of Quran interpretation to be included in the international competition in order to encourage reflecting on the Quranic concepts. The fifth edition of the International Holy Quran Competition for Muslims Students is scheduled to be held on January 1-5, 2015 in Tehran by the Iranian Academics' Quranic Activities Organization. It is aimed at enhancing Islamic unity, paving the way for promotion of Quranic teachings and culture and providing a venue for interactions among Muslim world students. Asked about his Quranic activities, al-Mahrous said he learned the entire Holy Quran by heart at the age of 15. While he has taken part in several Quran competitions in Syria, it will be the first time al-Mahrous is to attend an international Quranic event. “I once won the second rank in a Quran competition organized by the Islamic Republic of Iran’s Cultural Center in Damascus,” he stated. Born in 1992, al-Mahrous is now a dentistry student at the University of Damascus. http://iqna.ir/fa/News/2612176
