According to Al-Shoruq Online, Algerian Awqaf and Religious Affairs Minister Mohammad Issa said 66 countries have been invited to take part in the contest.
It will be held in the categories of Quran memorization, Tajweed and interpretation.
He said a number of non-Muslim countries, including Canada, Russia, India and the Philippines are among those invited.
Issa noted that 45 countries have so far confirmed their participation and that the number is expected to rise.
The Algerian capital of Algiers will host the international Quranic event.
Meanwhile, the North African country’s national Quran competition is underway in the capital city to select Algeria’s representatives in the international competition.
