Malaysia Int’l Quranic Event to Wrap Up Saturday

According to IQNA dispatches, the closing ceremony will be held Saturday night at the Putra Jaya Trade Center in Kuala Lumpur with senior officials, including Malaysia’s king, in attendance.

It is scheduled to start at 8:00 P.M. local time with recitation of verses from the Holy Quran by the top Qari of the contest.

Later winners of the top ranks in each category in the men’s and women’s sections will be awarded.

The international competition, known as the "International Al Quran Recital and Memorisation Assembly”, has been underway in the Malaysian capital city since Monday, with the participation of Qaris and memorizers of the Quran from 69 countries.

The competition’s 16-strong panel of judges is expected to name the winners late on Saturday.

Iran’s representative Seyed Mostafa Hosseini, who performed his recitation on Wednesday is among the favorites to bag the top prize in the category of recitation in the men’s section.

Last year, Iran’s Mohsen Hajihassani Kargar came first in this category. He, along with hundreds of other Hajj pilgrims, later died in a crush of pilgrims in Mina, Saudi Arabia, in September 2015.
