Speaking to IQNA, Hussein Hamdan, who serves as a member of the jury panel of the Islamic Republic’s 33rd International Holy Quran Competition, said Qaris and Quran memorizers from a large number of Arab and non-Arab countries have come to Iran to take part in the competition.
They have come to say that Iran is with the Quran and serves the Quran through promoting memorization, recitation and Tajweed, he added.
This is a response to those who want to distort the image of the Islamic Republic by accusing it of inattention to Quranic activities, Hamdan stressed.
He added that Iran’s Quran competition is a step toward promoting the enlightening teachings of the Holy Quran.
Referring to verse 32 of Surah al-Tawba "Fain would they put out the light of Allah with their mouths, but Allah Disdaineth (aught) save that He shall perfect His light, however much the disbelievers are averse,” the Lebanese Quranic figure underlined that the ill-wishers can never put out the light of the Quran.
Hamdan further referred to the performance of the contenders in the recitation category of the competition, saying that except for a few, most of the participants were good in observing the rules of Tajweed.
Iran’s international Quran contest kicked off on Wednesday in the capital Tehran with the participation of representatives of more than 70 countries.
It will conclude in a ceremony on Tuesday night where winners of the two categories will be announced and receive their awards.
