TEHRAN (IQNA) – A prominent Iraqi Quran reciter died on Wednesday.

Muhammad Saeed Abdullah al-Naeemi was on a trip to India when he died, Rafi al-Ameri, director of the Quran Sciences Center affiliated to Iraqi Shia Awqaf Department, told IQNA.

Ameri added that al-Naeemi’s body will be flown to Iraq and his funeral will be held on Friday.

Born in the northern Iraqi city of Mosul, al-Naeemi was a graduate of the al-Imam al-Azam Abu Hanifa University of Baghdad in Quranic sciences and Tafsir (interpretation).

He learned the Quran by heart at an early age and spent some 40 years of his life teaching the Quran.

Al-Naeemi also wrote a number of books in Islamic history and Fiqh (jurisprudence).

His books on Tajweed recitation of the Quran are taught in Quran schools in Iraq.

He was also a member of the National Quranic Sciences Center and served as a Quranic adviser to Radio Baghdad.
