TEHRAN (IQNA) – A prominent Bahraini Quran activist said there has been no decline in Quranic activities since the start of the uprising in the Persian Gulf country.

Quran Activities Rise in Bahrain since February 14 Uprising

Ahmed Mansour Hassan Mahfouz told IQNA that since the start of the peaceful protests in 2011, Quranic activities in Bahrain have actually developed despite the regime’s growing restrictions and crackdowns.

Bahrain, a close ally of the United States in the Persian Gulf region, has been witnessing almost daily protests against the ruling Al Khalifa dynasty since mid-February 2011. Bahrain’s ongoing heavy-handed crackdown on peaceful demonstrations has left scores of people dead and hundreds injured.

Mahfouz referred to al-Zikr al-Hakim Quranic Society, a Shia Quranic society in Bahrain, as one of the centers promoting Quranic programs in the country.

He said it organizes courses on Quran memorization and recitation and holds an annual Quran competition.

The Bahraini Qari, who has attended many international Quran competitions, including the one in Iran, further described the Islamic Republic as a leading country in the field of Quranic activities.

He said the Iranian people love the Quran and are hugely interested in Quran recitations by prominent Qaris of the Muslim world.
