TEHRAN (IQNA) – Iranians and other Shia Muslims residing in Belarus attended a mourning ceremony in the capital Minsk on Saturday to mark Arbaeen.

The Iranian embassy in the country organized the event at Bayt-ul-Zahra religious center after Maghrib and Isha prayers.

It included prayer recitations, a speech on the message of Arbaeen, and elegy recitations.

Arbaeen comes 40 days after Ashura, the martyrdom anniversary of the third Shia Imam, Imam Hussein (AS).

Each year, a huge crowd of Shias flock to the Iraqi city of Karbala, where the holy shrine of Imam Hussein (AS) is located, to perform mourning rites.

Muslims elsewhere in the world also hold mourning ceremonies on the sad occasion.

Arbaeen fell on Saturday, October 19, this year.
